Keywords Page
Tutorial
SMS keyword campaigns are increasing in popularity as a way to easily engage potential customers with targeted offers or deliver information straight to mobile devices via text message.
Most importantly, though, text message keywords help you gain opted-in contacts. Once contacts are opted-in, you can include them in a mass text message.

Overview
With TextSanity’s text message marketing app, you can create an unlimited number of campaigns. When someone texts the keyword you choose for a specific campaign to the 10-digit phone number that comes with your account, your campaign automatically engages them with the message flow you set-up.
How to set up a
Basic Campaign
To set up a campaign, go to the “Campaigns” page in your TextSanity account. Click the “+ New Campaign” button on the upper-right hand corner of your screen.
Next, name your campaign. (This is for your own reference.)
Click next and pick a keyword. Please note: you cannot use a keyword that’s already in use with another campaign. Keywords are not case sensitive.
Now you’ll need to choose between Single Message or Multiple Messages.
Here’s the difference:
- A single message campaign has a one message flow. This means that when engaged, it simply sends one message (which can include a file or link) to whoever engaged it. Your contact database creates a contact with that person’s number, but you still need to opt them in to send future messages.
- A multiple messages campaign has an automated flow of as many messages as you choose. All contacts from a multiple message campaign add into your database as opted-in contacts. In addition, you can export information gathered from a contact’s responses as a spreadsheet.
After you pick Single Message or Multiple Messages, you’ll choose which tags you want attached to the contacts that come into your database from this campaign. Please note: you can also add new tags here.
At this point, you’ve completed the basic campaign set-up!
How to finish a
Single Message Campaign
You need to create the return message that someone receives when they text your keyword to your 10-digit phone number. Please note: if you want to add a link or attachment, click the “Attachment” button, add the file or url and then click “Save”.
The single message campaign is set-up at this point. You can make the campaign “active” or “inactive” with the toggle switch at the top-left of the page.
Additionally, you can add or remove tags, edit the name of the campaign, and edit keywords. Do this for the campaign by clicking the “edit” icon at the top of the left column. If you want to edit the message, you’ll have to make sure the campaign is “inactive”. Then, click the “edit” icon for the message in the message panel and edit as needed. Remember to “activate” the campaign when you’re finished.
How to finish a
Multiple Message Campaign
Choosing how you want the opt-in message to work is your first step. You can choose to have the opt-in response ask for one of three options: name, email, or “yes” to be opted-in.
If you choose to stop at this point, you will gain an opted in contact which receives the tags you chose for contacts to receive in this campaign. If you do this, remember to compose one more message that thanks the contact for opting-in. This way the person understands they’ve been opted-in.
If your objective is to continue to gather or disseminate information through this keyword campaign, you can add more messages by clicking “+ Message” button in the top-right corner of the message panel. Doing so will open the “Create Message” box where you can name the message, craft the body of the message, and include attachments.
When you “Activate” the campaign, it will ask you if you are expecting a response from the last message you’ve created to be sent. If your last message was a thank you or confirmation message, then you will select “No.” If your last message asked a question, then you will select “Yes”. This way you include their final response in your “Results.”
The point of recording the final response of a contact engaging in the campaign is to be able to view and export their responses. You can do so by clicking “View Responses” at the bottom-left of the page. Please note, the name you gave to the specific messages in your flow will be what the column name is for those responses on the spreadsheet. Make sure to name your messages accordingly.
Remember, you can open and edit campaigns at any time by navigating to the “Keyword” page in your TextSanity account.
